Gratitude in times of crisis. For the nurses, doctors, cops, grocers and clerks. But also for reporters, editors, photographers, publishers, the people who make sure we get the latest news untainted by political spin. To the journalists who get shouted down by an ungrateful and megalomaniac nutball president. Who get jeered and cursed at by ignorant people whipped into a mob frenzy by same. To the correspondents who got their credentials pulled and fight to get them back. To the skeleton crews at broadcast facilities. To the broadcast-from-home weather woman. You guys are my heroes. This is grim stuff. Thanks for not sugar-coating it.

The White House is expected to release models showing the future course of the disease, and the C.D.C. is reviewing its guidance on wearing masks as new data suggests many people with no symptoms are infecting others.
